The name, the place, the purpose
Shannaghe --Sha-nah-gkee--is the term for the truth-tellers of ancient Ireland, the storytellers, the historians.
Our primary program is a residency-- solo experience--where writers, environmentalists, photographers, and other creative thinkers come to live and work on projects that elucidate the nature of being human on this planet. In particular, we're interested in work that draws on the powers of introspection, storytelling, and research; affirms community; questions injustice; and/or maybe even delights. We also provide temporary housing and/or meeting space for organizations, practitioners, and others engaged in community projects.

It's a renovated horse barn--a complete little house--on a well-traveled rural road outside Belfast, Maine. Residents apply for opportunity to stay here.
